Four communities along Deal Island Road in Somerset County form the area known as Deal Island.
Legend says the island was originally called Devils Island and was settled by pirates. Deal Island served as a prominent landmark as Capt. John Smith explored the Chesapeake Bay. For generations, the area has been mostly a watermen’s community, but now it is also home to many retirees.
